January 8th, 2008 - Spooner Row |
| The year started off with a walk
primarily around fields and bridle paths in the Spooner Row area
followed by lunch at the Three Boars Public House. The walk was
organised by Anne and Peter and will be long remembered by Val as
her car broke down coming out of the car park and she had to be
towed to a garage! |

Bramerton and Kirby Bedon
A very picturesque four mile walk around the Bramerton and
Kirby Bedon area, taking in Bramerton common and Broad and the
twin churches of St Mary and St Andrew at Kirby Bedon.
The village of Kirby has two medieval churches next door to
each other - the ruined church dedicated to St Mary and the parish

| church of St Andrew across the road. It
is likely that they were built close to each other both in area
and date.
The Domesday book shows the county of Norfolk being divided
into a high number of small manorial estates. Neighbouring estates
and manors often had separate churches and in this case St Mary's
was the poor relation and by 1721 had fallen into a poor
condition. In 1748 it was described as having been in ruin from
"time immemorial."
St Mary's was repaired in 1997 an today is one of 100 ruined
churches in the county. The walk was organised by Heather and John
and lunch was taken at Crown Point in Trowse.

February 5th, 2008 -
Norwich
|
| John organised a very
pleasant walk around some of the historic parts of Norwich,
starting on Britannia Barracks overlooking the city where the
photo opposite was taken with the cathedral in the background.
The walk took in both Wensum and Waterloo Parks and parts of
Mousehold Heath and concluded with a meal at the Cottage Public
House in Thorpe. Below are a number of thumbnail photos of
Norwich. Click on them to open a full size image. The photos were
taken by Peter and Bill
