Our Travels

One of our great interests is travel. Here we will be building sections to our site to reflect holidays and places visited. See also Peter's site for travels to First and Second World War sites.

  USSR - A fateful holiday where Anne and Peter met. From Leningrad to Moscow by overnight train and onto Talinn in Estonia along with a group of young British people 1974
  Romania - Peter did this one on his own with the same company as the previous year's trip. Found Bucharest to be a soulless place under the Cesescu regime 1975
  West coast Scotland July - Our honeymoon. Clear skies, lakes and Oban amongst others 1976
  Maryland - USA * - Our first visit to the United States and one of the most enjoyable holidays as we swap houses. 1978
  Denmark - Holiday on a farm with Chris (aged 3 and Matt aged 1). Lots of fun on the tractors and one for the family album. 1985
  Majorca - Matt's second birthday was celebrated with a plate of chips (his choice). Dad and Chris went across the island on a coach. 1986

  Spain * - An all inclusive holiday of sport and sight-seeing at the San Eloy apartments near Tossa De Mar (yes that really is its name) 1999
  A day in Salzburg * - From Norwich Airport to the home of everything Mozart and around Christmas time as well. 1999
  Three days in Bruges * - A short break in the lovely Belgian city of Bruges - just a hop, skip and jump across the English Channel 2000
  Turkey * - The lovely resort of Kalkan was our base for a very enjoyable stay in historic turkey which included a visit to Ephesus and a local school 2001
  First World War battlefields *- Peter's poignant holiday showing the total futility of war. Why can't we all learn to live together in peace? 2002
  Australia - Brisbane, Sydney, Alice Springs, Ayres Rock and Tokyo all thrown into a 12 day sprint.  
  Madrid - A short break in the Spanish Capital, which grows on you the longer you stay. 2003
  St Petersburg - A semi cultural return to St Petersburg one of the most historically interesting and beautiful cities in the world. A chance to see how much it has changed since the 1970s 2003
  Mediterranean Cruise - Our first time on a cruise. More like Butlins on Sea but taking in places such as Marseille, Genoa and Barcelona  2003
  Zurich Christmas - A return to Peter's favourite city to enjoy the sights and sounds of the festive season, not to mention a glass or two of mulled wine. 2003
  Venice - Did one of the world's greatest cities live up to all the hype - you bet. Venice is like nowhere else. 2004
  Norway Cruise - Life aboard the MV Discovery on a trip through the fjords and attractive Norwegian villages 2004
  Lake Garda - A week in the beautiful Lake Garda area of Italy where we made some new friends and enjoyed the tranquil feel of Limone 2004

Manchester/Saddleworth * Includes visits to the Imperial War Museum of the North in Manchester, a trip to Old Trafford to see Manchester United v Norwich City and a visit to a number of villages in the Saddleworth area to see some of the places mentioned in the songs of Barclay James Harvest.

Cambridge Weekend - A weekend of semi culture in Cambridge with friends from Yorkshire and London. 2005
Egypt: * Includes Aswan, Luxor  and a cruise along the Nile including Karnak Temple, the Valley of the Kings and Queens at Thebes and visits to a Nubian village. 2005
Switzerland: * Includes a stay in Interlaken and visits to Thun, Murren and to the top of the Schilthorn. 2005
  Caribbean Cruise: From Florida through the Caribbean on a Royal Caribbean vessel and dodging Hurricane Wilma 2005

Canada and Alaska: From Calgary to Banff, Kamloops and Vancouver in Canada and then cruising the inner passage to Alaska with stops at Ketchikan, Juneau and Scagway before returning to Vancouver. 2006
